15. Glamour‘s Pick: Imbruglia’s “Torn”

So what is the real story behind “Torn?” Turns out that Imbruglia herself isn’t so sure. “I didn’t write it,” reveals the artist, “so I don’t know what it’s really about.” The song was written by a band called Ednaswap and Phil Thornally, says Imbruglia, of which the latter also produced and cowrote her first album. But even though Imbruglia didn’t write it, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t deeply personal to her. “I really connected with it when I heard it. It just captured the emotion of a broken relationship so well. We have all been there.” Isn’t that the truth.
